Xylitol is a naturally occurring carbohydrate that looks and tastes just like regular table sugar. It is a natural sweetener that can be extracted from any woody fibrous plant material and contains fewer calories than sugar. Xylitol is found widely in nature and most of the fruits and vegetables that we eat on a daily basis contain small amounts of Xylitol.

The Glycaemic Index measures the effect of foods on blood sugar levels on a scale of 1 to 100. Foods that measure 55 and below are considered Low Glycaemic. Xylitol has a measure of 8 on the Glycaemic Index and is therefore considered Low G.I.

Xylitol is suitable for diabetics when used as part of a balanced eating plan.
